Police find meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia; woman arrested

BEDFORD – On Thursday, August 22, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Bedford Police Officer Taylor Daugherty was patrolling 16th Street near J Street when she stopped a white Buick Encore after learning the vehicle had a license plate that belonged to a 2021 silver Ford Explorer.

The female passenger, 31-year-old Chelsea Whaley, admitted the vehicle belonged to her and she had just purchased it.

Sgt.  Faheem Bade and his canine Zazu arrived, and Zazu alerted the officer to drugs in the vehicle.

Whaley then admitted there was meth and a razor blade in her purse. She then said, “There might be a grinder and some marijuana” in the purse.

She was handcuffed and then admitted there was a glass meth pipe in her underwear.

Whaley said, “Roaches and anything like that lying around, it’s mine.”

Police also found a metallic grinder, a glass smoking device, and clear baggies, all containing marijuana and a marijuana cigarette.

Police released the driver, who took possession of the vehicle.

Whaley was transported to jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While being processed at the jail, staff observed an abnormality in Whaley’s body scan, and she was transported to IU Health for screening; however, nothing was located. She was then transported back to the Lawrence County Jail.
