Trooper finds meth, syringes, and marijuana, Heltonville man arrested

BEDFORD – A Heltonville man was arrested after an Indiana State trooper found drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Police arrested 46-year-old David Swafford on charges of possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a syringe.

Indiana State Police Trooper Jesse Crane stopped Swafford on August 22 just after 6 p.m. on State Road 37, near Trogdon Lane.

After stopping the 2008 Chevrolet Impala, the driver, Swafford, stepped out of the car and said he had a syringe in his pocket. He then admitted there was a bag in the vehicle that contained more syringes, a marijuana pipe, and a baggie of crystal meth.

Police then learned Swafford’s license was suspended, and he was wanted on a Lawrence County warrant for failure to appear.

Swafford was transported to jail. Stone City Service and Collision Center towed the vehicle.
