On Thursday, June 20, 2024, a Bedford woman reported to the Bedford Police Department, finding a tracking device under her vehicle. The discovery, which occurred under the passenger side of her car, raised immediate concerns, prompting the woman to believe her ex-partner was involved.

The woman, suspecting her ex had commented about going to the casino, decided to check her vehicle and discovered the tracking device. She handed the device over to Officer Brent Thompkins, who began an investigation.

The following day, June 21, the woman contacted the police again, this time with a startling revelation: her ex had allegedly admitted to placing the device on her vehicle. This admission led the police to seek a subpoena from Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline to investigate further.

The investigation revealed that the device, which had been active from January 3 to April 2, 2024, was registered to Amanda Thompson, the ex-wife of the woman’s former partner. When questioned by the police, the man denied placing the device himself. However, Amanda Thompson admitted to purchasing and placing the device on the vehicle.

The ex-partner told police that he was concerned for his son’s safety because of the woman’s alleged drug use. He claimed that this was the reason behind placing the tracking device, but he said he didn’t realize it was illegal, although he was not the one to put the device on the vehicle.

The case remains under investigation as authorities consider the legal consequences of these actions.
