BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence dominated doubles while bouncing Brown County 4-1 in boys high school tennis action on Thursday.

The Stars dropped only 1 game in the two doubles matches. Orion Hill and Neal Patel pounded Audric Dunn and Jack Keener 6-0, 6-0 at No.1, while Micah Carter and Wyatt Corbin clubbed Jax Anderson and Logan Peck 6-1, 6-0 at No.2.

In singles, Braxton Fugate fought off Brown County’s Jax Burt 6-2, 6-3 at No.2, while Asher Thompson stopped Robert Webb 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.

“Braxton did a great job, holding his own,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “The way he has grown since first meeting him is insane.”

BNL’s only loss came at No.1 singles. BNL’s Jackson Corey suffered an ankle injury in the third-set tiebreaker and had to withdraw, as Owen East posted a 6-4, 2-6, 2-1 (retired) win for the Eagles.

BNL’s Wyatt Corbin prepares to crack a serve during action at No.2 doubles.

“Jackson had to stop because of an ankle injury while running down a ball at the net,” Dillman said. “It was a thrilling match, to watch him struggle mentally in the first set and then change things around in the second. It’s a dang shame that happened to him. I want all my guys to come off the court with a win. An injury isn’t something I asked for.

“There has been so many ‘what ifs’ already this season. When I feel like I’m standing on solid ground, I tend to look down and continue to see crackles. There’s always one thing after another. I need the tennis gods to bless us with no more injuries.”

BNL (2-6) will host Seymour on Thursday.
