On March 29, authorities responded to a home at 1325 Grindstone Hollow Road after receiving a tip about animal neglect. Officer Hillenburg, Deputy Thomas Porter, and Prosecutor Investigator Rob Herr conducted the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office received an anonymous tip describing “obvious and defenseless victims suffering.” The tipster suggested arresting Michael Wade, saying Wade neglecting to feed or contain his dogs due to their weakened state.

Upon arrival, investigators encountered an emaciated female pit bull nursing puppies. The dog eagerly consumed offered food. While officers sought a search warrant, Wade arrived at the property.

Wade acknowledged his dogs’ poor condition. Two adult dogs and 13 puppies were found on the premises. He claimed to have rehomed some other dogs and cited financial struggles and lack of water on the property. Wade stated he fed the dogs three 13-oz cans of food daily, though no food or water was visible.

Wade surrendered all 16 dogs to the Sheriff’s Department.

Dr. Jodi Lovejoy from the Indiana Board of Animal Health examined the dogs at the White River Humane Society. She found them emaciated, infested with parasites, and having ingested non-food items due to hunger. Dr. Lovejoy concluded the dogs were at risk of death from neglect.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor and a warrant was issued for Wade’s arrest.
