BLOOMFIELD – A serious accident occurred on Interstate 69 in Greene County early this morning, resulting in one person being airlifted to a hospital with head injuries.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3rd, near the 101-mile marker of I-69 southbound. According to Indiana State Police, a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Clemente D. Cahuich, 55, of Reidsville, North Carolina, veered off the road and into the median before the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll.
Eyewitnesses report that the truck traveled through a ditch and up an embankment before resting on its wheels facing west. Emergency responders, including firefighters from the Center Township Fire Territory and Indiana State Police, quickly arrived at the scene.
The front-seat passenger, Eliezer D. Cahuich, 57, also from Reidsville, North Carolina, suffered a head injury in the crash. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis for urgent medical treatment. His current condition is unknown.
The driver’s relationship with the injured passenger has not been disclosed, though they share the same last name and hometown.
Indiana State Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident. No other vehicles were involved, and it’s unclear at this time what factors may have contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
