Stars top short-handed Mitchell at Stonecrest

BNL’s Sammie Nusbaum carded a 38 on the West Course at Stonecrest on Wednesday.

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence posted a team score of 156 while conquering Mitchell on the West Course at Stonecrest during girls high school golf action on Wednesday.

BNL’s Emma Endris earned medalist honors with a 2-over 37. The Bluejackets had only three competitors and did not qualify for a team score.

Endris birdied the third hole. Sammie Nusbaum birdied the first en route to her solid 38.

“Emma and Sammie did a great job,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “They both are quickly realizing that you don’t have to hit perfect golf shots to post a good score. That mindset will help them immensely once swings start to fully click into place.”

Kinleigh Root birdied the fifth while totaling 40, while Ellie Horton and Emma Voris (birdie on 5) capped the team scoring with 41s. Kadynn Canada added a career-best 43.

“It was a much better night for us,” Johnston said. “We had a lot of good shots and some solid scores. Kadynn is one of the most coachable kids I’ve ever had. She rarely gets flustered on the course, so it can be difficult to tell from a distance how she’s doing. However, she gave me two thumbs up and I knew we were eyeing down another PR.

“We finally have a few days of practice time so we’re going to take advantage of that, to dial swings back in and do a lot of short-game work before we play again.”

Anna Sowders paced Mitchell with 38.

BNL will face Jasper at Country Oaks on Tuesday.
