Domestic dispute leads to 17-year-old stabbing man in Hope

HOPE — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday that a 17-year-old male was taken into custody following a stabbing incident during a domestic dispute.

On Tuesday at 10:26 p.m., law enforcement responded to a reported stabbing in a residential area on the 100 block of Schaefer Court South in Hope, Indiana. Upon arrival, deputies found 42-year-old Eric Douglas had suffered multiple stab wounds.

According to investigators, the incident began as a minor physical altercation between Douglas and another resident. The situation escalated when the teenager allegedly stabbed Douglas several times in the back. Douglas was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for medical treatment.

The 17-year-old, whose name has not been disclosed due to his age, faces preliminary charges of battery causing serious bodily injury. He is being held in the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
