NEW ALBANY – New Albany scored in the opening minute en route to a 2-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during boys high school soccer action on Thursday.
Carlos Rodriguez converted a free kick in the first minute, and the Bulldogs (3-1-2 overall) added a goal midway through the first half while winning their Hoosier Hills Conference opener.
After the stunning goal to start, Oliver Dickman scored a key insurance goal at 18:56.
“The first half was a struggle,” BNL coach Ryan Otis said. “They possessed the ball and we did a lot of chasing.
“In the second half, we came out with more intensity and played better. During the last 20 minutes, we had some great possession and had several chances. I really think if we had put one in, we would have had momentum. We need to learn to start games better and put a whole game together.“
New Albany owned a 13-4 advantage in shots.
The Stars (3-3 overall, 0-1 in the HHC) will host Columbus East on Tuesday.
