January 3, 1938 – September 4, 2024
Michael David Cain, 86, died early Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at his home in Bedford, Indiana.
Born January 3, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of Eathel D. and Frances Abbot Cain. Michael married Nancy Benjamin in 1963 and Janice Buchholz in 1976.
At seventeen, Michael joined the US Navy and traveled the world by ship, seeing places and countries that were adventures of a lifetime for a young man. He served his country for twenty-one years in communications, retiring in 1976 as a senior chief. After retiring, he attended and graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business. He and Janice built their home and surrounding Christmas tree farm, Woodcrest Farm, where they focused on bringing joy to families during the holidays. Michael enjoyed meeting the people, many of who would return to Woodcrest Farm each holiday, and he
especially enjoyed seeing the smiles on children’s faces as they helped bring their Christmas trees in from the field. He was proud of his military service, loved life on their farm, appreciated his friends, and fought a good fight on his final journey home.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; daughters, Barbara (Jerry) McGinness and Denise (Ron) Walker; son, Guy (Randi) Cain; several grandchildren; brother, John (Terry) Cain; sister, Geraldine Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Candace Cain; granddaughter Darra Turner-Jones; sisters Patricia Janice (in childhood), Christin and Linda; and a brother, Jason.
Cremation was chosen. No services are scheduled, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements for Michael have been entrusted with the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes.
