BEDFORD – On Friday, August 2, 2024, a medical emergency call turned into a drug investigation after police responded to a reported overdose at a residence on G Street.
At approximately 7:44 p.m., Bedford Police officers were dispatched to 1718 G Street following reports of an individual experiencing an overdose. Upon arrival, Officer Landon Jones found several individuals at the scene, including a male on the front porch and another female inside the home.
Officers quickly located Anna Martin in the bathroom, where a second woman was performing CPR. Police administered Narcan and used an AED while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. After sustained efforts, Martin began breathing and was transported to IU Health Bedford for further treatment.
During the incident, officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view, including syringes and a spoon containing crystal meth. This discovery prompted Sergeant Gerkin to obtain a search warrant for the property. Judge Plummer III granted the warrant at 9:04 p.m. on August 4, 2024, which was executed minutes later. The search yielded additional evidence, including:
- Two hypodermic syringes
- A metal spoon with crystal meth residue
- A plastic bag containing crystal meth residue and cotton balls
- A Motorola cell phone
In a related development, IU Health Bedford Police contacted local authorities to report that a plastic bag containing crystal meth was found on Martin’s person at the hospital.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Martin’s arrest on charges of possession of meth and a narcotic drug.
