Seymour rolls to sweep of Stars

SEYMOUR – Seymour dominated singles while cruising to a 5-0 sweep of Bedford North Lawrence during boys high school tennis action on Thursday.

The Owls dropped only four games on the three singles courts. Parker Thompson topped Jackson Corey 6-2, 6-0 at No.1, Carter Stein stopped Braxton Fugate 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Dane Thompson tripped Asher Thompson 6-2, 6-0 at No.3.

The Stars were competitive in doubles. The Owls got off to a fast start at No.1 as Shun Takeuchi and Joel Stevens conquered Orion Hill and Neal Patel 6-0, 6-4. Seymour finished the sweep as Xavier DuBois and Griffin Eggers edged Micah Carter and Wyatt Corbin 6-4, 6-3 at No.2.

“It was a great match, obviously not the results we wanted,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “But I got the intel needed to better us against Seymour in the future. They are a great team that reminds me of when I was in high school, solid overall.

“Doubles had the most competitive matches. Our No.2 was in it the whole time, the score just doesn’t reflect what the match looked like. Our No.1 doubles started off way too slow. They picked it up in the second, doing a fantastic job. They brought the heat and firepower that I’ve been begging for. If only they started with that energy in the first set, things would look better for us.”

BNL (2-7) will compete at North Daviess on Saturday.
