COLUMBUS – Bedford North Lawrence finished 15th in the boys race during the Rick Weinheimer Invitational cross country races at Columbus North on Saturday.
The Stars totaled 408 points in the 22-team field. Noblesville won the title with 46 points, followed by Columbus North (63) and Bloomington North (80).
Jonah Bailey paced BNL, crossing in 56th place in 16:44.2. Tucker Inman was 74th in 17:04.4, and Nick Lindley was 83rd in 17:17.8.
“Developing a racing mindset is the direction we need to continue,” BNL coach Nick Boyd said. “This was the first race where we had some solid groupings of runners throughout the race and we will continue to work together.
“Jonah, Tucker, and Nick all did a nice job of advancing in a larger race. The large race atmosphere was nice to experience prior to the rest of the season and was great experience for our younger runners.”
Jackson Nolan of Evansville Reitz was the individual champion in 15:02.0.
In the girls meet, BNL finished 14th among 21 teams with 374 points. Columbus North won the crown with 51 points, followed by Noblesville (63) and Milford (107).
Paige Voigtschild was the top finisher for the Stars, crossing in 36th place in 19:59.8. Elise Williams was 91st in 21:46.1, and Claire Voigtschild was 95th in 21:50.6.
“The girls had a fantastic morning,” BNL co-coach Amy Greenan said. “The cool weather, the fast course, and the competition really brought out some great performances. We will be running HHC on the same course in a few weeks, so this will help them be more confident and competitive before we hit tournament time. We’re heading in the right direction.”
Columbus North’s Carys Jones was the individual winner in 17:57.6.
BNL will compete in the Eagle Classic at Brown County on Sept. 14.
