ELNORA – North Daviess swept the singles while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Saturday.
The Cougars dropped only four games on the three singles courts. Blake Huff topped Jackson Corey 6-1, 6-2 at No.1, Coby Loheider stopped Braxton Fugate 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Koen Stoll dropped Asher Thompson 6-0, 6-1 at No.3.
“I’m going back to the drawling board with my singles,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “Something isn’t working there and I have to figure it out. I’m going to be spending this next week looking at restructuring our singles lineup.”
BNL’s lone win came at No.1 doubles as Orion Hill and Neal Patel popped Aden Graber and Nate Raber 7-6 (7-3 in the tiebreaker), 6-4. Braylen Pridemore and Rex Freed defeated Micah Carter and Wyatt Corbin 6-4, 6-0 at No.2.
“Overall, it was a bad day for the team,” Dillman said. “I’m ready to put everything behind us and move forward. Wondering when it’ll be our turn to be the one to celebrate. Doubles has been solid overall, I’m really proud of No.1 doubles for taking control and being the most consistent players.
“The wind didn’t help us out. North Daviess had the answers with the wind and we just kept using old playbook moves that never work. We still hit the ball as hard as we can and miss it. I have to ask myself what I’m doing wrong here. These BNL guys are good tennis players, we just have to transfer how we play in practice to a real match against someone who isn’t on the team.”
The Stars (2-8) will host Paoli on Tuesday.
