LAWRENCE CO.— Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder announced this week that the chip-and-seal operations on county roads have been completed.
During a meeting with county commissioners on Tuesday morning, Sowder provided an update on ongoing maintenance activities. He reported that crews focus on “catching up” on mowing and ditch work. Additionally, the railroad has requested that more grass seed be sown at Bridge 150 on Cement Plant Road over Leatherwood Creek.
Highway crews are also busy painting the historic Williams Covered Bridge in preparation for the 5th Annual Williams Covered Bridge Dinner, scheduled for Saturday, September 14. The event celebrates the community and its heritage.
Lawrence County Tourism Director Tonya Chastain anticipates approximately 200 attendees this year. The dinner will commence at 4 p.m. as guests begin to gather at their tables, with the meal served at 5 p.m. Parking for the event will be available at the Williams Dam Parking Lot.
As the county wraps up its road maintenance work and readies for the annual dinner, residents and visitors can look forward to well-maintained infrastructure and a festive community gathering. Contact Lawrence County Tourism or visit their official website for more details on the event.
