Obituary: Naomi Mae Parkes

June 7, 1925 – September 8, 2024

Naomi Mae Parkes, 99, of Oolitic, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at White River Lodge.

Born June 7, 1925, in Greene County, she was the daughter of William Vernie and Delphia Maude (Jackson) Hamilton. She married Joseph Walter Parkes on July 25, 1943, and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2018. She had been a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. Naomi was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church for 75 years.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Joe (Bonnie) Parkes, William Lee (Debra) Parkes, Kerry Dale (Kim) Parkes, and Keith Duane (Marilyn) Parkes; eight grandchildren, Donnie Joe Parkes, Katrina Lynn Parkes, Darren Scott Parkes, William Robert Parkes, Valerie Janine Parkes Byers, Shannon Marie Parkes Robertson, Jarret Michael Parkes, and Kara Ann Parkes; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great-grandchild, six sisters, Goldie Brazzell, Leon Pritchett, Nellie Tinsley Hatfield, Lucille Hostetter, Norma Saunders, and Mildred Hamilton, and three brothers, Oval Hamilton, Vearl Hamilton, and Dale Hamilton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
