BLOOMINGTON — An 18-year-old Indiana University student from Lake Worth, Florida, was arrested Tuesday night in connection with an alleged rape at an on-campus residence hall following last week’s home football game.
Gregory Gabler faces two counts of rape, Level 3 felonies. IU Public Safety spokesperson Hannah Skibba confirmed that Gabler has been issued a trespass warning for all university property.
The incident was reported to authorities on Tuesday, September 10, with the alleged assault taking place at Wilkie Hall between 11 p.m. on Friday, September 6, and 3 a.m. on Saturday, September 7. The university sent out a crime notice to the campus community around the time of Gabler’s arrest.
Court documents reveal that the victim initially went to Gabler’s dorm room with friends after the game. After the others left, the situation allegedly escalated. The victim reported that Gabler became aggressive, causing injuries through biting and forceful actions.
Despite the victim’s repeated requests to stop and expressions of pain, Gabler allegedly continued the assault. The victim stated that Gabler made concerning comments about their future together after the incident.
The victim’s roommate corroborated parts of the account, stating that the victim returned visibly distressed and injured. Police have collected photographic evidence of the reported injuries.
IUPD officers located Gabler in one of his classes on Tuesday. He was taken in for questioning but declined to answer any questions. That evening, he was arrested.
Gabler’s initial court hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Monroe Circuit Court 2.
