Community to gather for Shoals’ Recovery Awareness Night, highlighting hope and healing

MARTIN COUNTY- The Recovery Awareness Night event in Shoals brings the community together to raise awareness about substance abuse recovery and celebrate those in recovery. It provides support, resources, and inspiring stories from those with histories of substance abuse, emphasizing hope and healing. This event encourages open dialogue, fosters connections, and promotes recovery options for individuals and families.

The event is scheduled for September 26 at Cornerstone Community Church, 401 Water Street, Shoals, and this free gathering welcomes all to attend. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., attendees can browse over 25 outreach booths dedicated to helping with self-care, recovery, mental health, and more. There will even be a demonstration on administering Narcan and giving it away to help ensure public safety. Be sure to sign up for drawings and door prizes that include gas cards, tumblers, and gift cards to local restaurants like Bo-Mac’s and Velma’s Diner!

“This is your night to shine, and it’s about breaking the stigma around substance abuse in Martin County,” said Georgia Cunningham, a leader at Celebrate Recovery. We have to get to the root of the problem; we have to heal.”

The evening’s main festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will feature food from Smokin’ Jim’s BBQ while you listen to live music or one of the special guest speakers. State Representatives, judges, and the probation department will be on hand to address the crowd and show their support for those in recovery. Those in the public are encouraged to share a short bit of encouragement or testimonial to those in attendance to let those in recovery know they are not alone and substance abuse can be beaten.
