NASHVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence finished fourth in both AA events during the Brown County Eagle Classic cross country races on Saturday.

In the 18-team boys meet, the Stars totaled 129 points. Franklin won the title with 59, followed by Terre Haute South (65) and Pike (72).

BNL freshman Tucker Inman bolted to the front of the pack for the Stars on the flat, fast course, crossing in seventh place overall in 16:56.7. Other top finishers for BNL included Jonah Bailey (13th in 17:17.1) and Nick Lindley (14th in 17:18.0).

“I feel accomplished today,” Inman said. “I liked the course and I think I ran hard. Next week I am looking forward to the opportunity to be consistent and continuing to run together as a pack.”

“We continue to gain experience as our season progresses,” BNL coach Nick Boyd said. “The boys raced well coming off a solid week of practice. It was much warmer today than expected, but we are improving our racing mindset.

“Tucker really raced today. When the race became difficult, he didn’t give up but kept pushing. That’s how we need to race. Tucker, Jonah, and Nick continue to become faster, and we hope to keep this trend going for the rest of the season.”

Pike’s Matthias Smith was the individual winner in 16:23.9.

In the girls race, the Stars totaled 135 points. Jasper won the 17-team event with 71, followed by Lawrence North (123) and Corydon (128).

Paige Voigtschild set the pace for BNL, finishing second in 19:59.5. Jasper’s Andyn Lampert was the winner in 19:45.5.

Other top finishers for the Stars included Elise Williams (21st in 21:40.4) and Claire Voigtschild (23rd in 21:44.3).

“The girls had another good race,” BNL co-coach Amy Greenan said. “Paige really went after the win. She’s learning to race in a big field and seeing how competitive she really is.  Elise and Claire have been pushing each other and it’s working out for both of them. Our pack kept working up together and kept reeling them in, just racing everyone within striking distance.  They have a lot to be proud of.”

BNL will compete in the Ray Gerkin Invitational at Jennings County on Sept. 21.
