MONROE CO. – In the early hours of Saturday, a significant fire incident unfolded on Burch Road, prompting a large-scale response from local fire departments to assist Monroe Fire Protection District.
The blaze began around 12:30 a.m. and quickly spread from a garage to the main house, a car, and an outbuilding.
Fire units arrived at the scene to find the structure engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately searched the premises and confirmed that no occupants were home during the fire, averting potential tragedy.
The magnitude of the fire necessitated an extended operation, with crews remaining on site for several hours to extinguish the blaze fully. The incident required additional resources, including water tender units from Greene County and the mobilization of off-duty personnel from the Municipal Fire Department (MFD).
A substantial fleet of firefighting equipment was deployed to combat the fire, including:
- Engines 39, 29, 22, 23, and 81
- Tenders 39, 22, 32, and 34
- Battalion 22
The Monroe Fire Protection District received valuable assistance from neighboring departments, including the Eastern Greene Fire Territory and Ellettsville Fire Department, highlighting the collaborative effort required to tackle such a significant fire.
