JASPER — A Jasper woman is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, following a violent incident that occurred on Sunday near the Riverwalk. Clara Whippo, 29, was arrested after allegedly attacking a man with a metal object, leaving him with significant injuries.
According to the Jasper Police Department, officers responded to a distress call from a man who was found walking near the 15th Street entrance of the Riverwalk with blood on his clothes and a head injury. The victim reported that he had been struck in the head by Whippo, who had fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, police searched for Whippo, utilizing K9 units and drones to aid the effort. The search led authorities to an agricultural field northeast of the Riverwalk entrance, where Whippo was eventually located and taken into custody.
Whippo has been booked into the Dubois County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, and criminal trespass. The investigation into the motive behind the attack is ongoing.
