BEDFORD – A Bedford man has been charged with multiple drug-related offenses following a traffic stop on Thursday, September 12. The arrest came after a routine patrol led to the discovery of methamphetamine and other items inside the vehicle.
According to an affidavit from Bedford Police Department Officer J. Landon Jones, Jason E. Blackshear, 46, faces charges of possession of meth, possession of narcotics, and driving on a suspended driver’s license with a prior conviction.
The incident began at approximately 3:40 p.m. when Officer Jones observed a black Chevrolet truck on Mitchell Road. The vehicle, registered to Kayla L. Blackshear, was driven by Jason E. Blackshear, who had a suspended driving status. Officer Jones initiated a traffic stop, and the truck stopped on the shoulder of the road.
Upon contacting the driver and two passengers—Chyote Erdmann and Brittany Mott—Officer Jones requested that all occupants exit the vehicle. Officer Michael Bell and his K9 partner, Castiel, arrived to conduct a narcotics search. Castiel alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the truck.
During a search, police found a brown paper bag in the center console. Inside the bag, officers discovered two clear plastic bags containing crystal meth and fentanyl and several sex toys.
During questioning, Jason E. Blackshear claimed ownership of the brown paper bag and admitted to placing the sex toys inside but denied owning the methamphetamine. Chyote Erdmann and Brittany Mott denied any connection to the bag.
Blackshear was handcuffed and transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing before being transferred to the Lawrence County Jail. The vehicle was released to Chyote Erdmann.
