Obituary: Frederick ‘Fred’ Lee Bruhy

November 29, 1934 – September 15, 2024

Frederick ‘Fred’ Lee Bruhy, 89, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Franciscan Health of Indianapolis.

He was born November 29, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, to William Austin and Stella Elizabeth (Balsinger) Bruhy. He married Anna Marie Spears on October 23, 1998, and she survives.

Fred held an associate’s degree, was a Korean Conflict Navy veteran, worked on the Apollo Mission Programs 07-15 and many other missions on the USNS Mercury with NASA and the Navy, and was awarded a special certificate through the program. Fred was also a pilot, owned his own plane, and loved his family fiercely.

Surviving to cherish Fred’s memory are his wife, Anna Marie; three sons, Robert (Susan) Bruhy of St. Louis, Missouri, Martin Joseph (Dawn) Bruhy of Bedford, and Jared (Tara) Condon of Bedford; three daughters, Rhonda Lee (Gary) Kleiner of Worcester, Massachusetts, Michelle Elaine (Brock)Alcorn of Bedford, and Ashley (Israel) Benge of Bedford; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, one on the way; and his beautiful dog Gertie.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents: son, Michael Lee Bruhy; daughter, Carol Ann Ross; and his loving dog, Sunshine.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, with his grandson, Pastor Andrew Dunbar, officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Eastern Star Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, followed by the Masonic Service. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from Noon until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
