SCOTTSBURG – Scottsburg swept the doubles while topping Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.
The Warriors dominated doubles as Noah Bagwell and Jarin Luttrell tackled Orion Hill and Neal Patel 6-4, 6-2 at No.1, while Carson Jones and Sammy Craig handled Micah Carter and Wyatt Corbin 6-2, 6-2 at No.2.
“Doubles took a spill with their energy,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “I couldn’t hear them when I was standing right next to them. No matter the day or time, we have to bring the energy to the courts. If we don’t, we’ve already given up.
“The match doesn’t start when the first serve is hit, it starts as soon as you walk off the bus. How you carry yourself, what you think determines the outcome of the match. Positive thoughts equal positive results.”
BNL’s only win came at No.1 singles as Jackson Corey conquered Jonah Copple 7-5, 6-4 for his first varsity singles triumph.
“Jackson had an amazing match,” Dillman said. “I couldn’t be more proud. His opponent was a tough force to deal with, and Jackson was able to read his plays before the other guy even got started. This will help him for the future.”
Scottsburg won the lower singles as Erwan LeLannic topped Braxton Fugate at No.2, and Jace Luttrell clipped Reece Goodgame 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in a marathon battle at No.3.
“Reece is a great addition to the lineup,” Dillman said. “He just needs to make sure he stays off the ground and away from injuries.”
The Stars (2-13) will host Salem on Thursday.
