INDIANA—In October, millions of individuals will receive the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, which can be worth up to $943.
The payments are intended for individuals living with severe disabilities that impact their ability to earn an income, as outlined by the Social Security Administration.
To be eligible for SSI payments, individuals must be at least partially blind or have physical or mental conditions that significantly limit their daily activities for 12 months or more or are expected to result in death.
Individual filers can receive up to $943 monthly, while couples filing jointly can receive up to $1,415. Additionally, essential persons providing necessary care to SSI recipients can receive up to $472.
Recipients can utilize the calculator provided by the SSA to determine the total amount of their SSI payment.
It’s important to note that SSI payments and regular Social Security benefits are not interconnected. Individuals who receive Social Security payments do not automatically qualify for SSI payments, and vice versa.
