BLOOMINGTON — Enzo, an Australian shepherd, found himself in a peculiar predicament after a dog bone lodged around his jaw, prompting a rescue operation by the Bloomington Fire Department.
On Tuesday, Enzo and his concerned owners arrived at Station 5 seeking help. Firefighters quickly assessed the situation, noting that the bone was stuck around the dog’s lower jaw, creating a potential choking hazard.
Following a thorough inspection, the firefighters contacted an emergency veterinary clinic for further assistance. Despite the clinic being “extremely busy,” the veterinarians promptly sedated Enzo to facilitate the rescue. With precision, firefighters used a Dremel tool to cut the bone from the dog’s mouth safely.
Fortunately, Enzo is now back home and safe, but the incident is a cautionary tale for dog owners. The Bloomington Fire Department took to social media to remind pet owners to exercise caution with dog bones, stating, “Not only can they become choking hazards, but, like in Enzo’s incident, they can get stuck around their jaws, too.”
This unusual rescue highlights the importance of monitoring pets while they enjoy their treats and ensuring their safety.
