INDIANA— BISSELL Pet Foundation is prompting a national call for adoption by hosting its Fall National Empty the Shelters™ event from October 1 to 15 at more than 360 organizations in 43 states.
This effort has helped nearly 283,000 pets find loving homes, making Empty the Shelters the largest funded adoption event in the country. During these quarterly national events, an average of 1,225 pets are adopted daily.
“Right now, our nation’s animal shelters are in crisis with too many pets coming in and not enough adoptions to keep up. Euthanasia rates have hit a 3-year-high, and healthy, adoptable pets are at risk due to space constraints,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Fall National Empty the Shelters offers a chance for the community to save lives through adoption while creating space for shelters to help more pets. If you can’t adopt, fostering can also make a lifesaving difference. Deserving pets across the country are counting on all of us.”
During each nationwide event, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees so shelters can charge $50 or less to take deserving pets from kennels to the couches of loving homes.
Shelters participating locally include the White River Humane Society in Bedford, the Orange County Humane Society in Paoli, the Greene County Humane Society in Linton, the Bartholomew County Humane Society in Columbus, and the Dubois Humane Society in Jasper.
Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the Empty the Shelters website to find the nearest participating shelter and confirm adoption day details.
