JEFFERSONVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence battled through the heat to forge a 2-2 deadlock with Jeffersonville during boys high school soccer action on Saturday.
The Stars (6-4-1 overall, 1-2-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) twice erased one-goal deficits with two goals by Frank Decker.
“Frank worked his butt off today,” BNL coach Ryan Otis said. “He got rewarded for all of his hustle.”
The Red Devils (3-5-2 overall, 1-2-1 in the league) took their first lead on a penalty kick by Carter Williams at 18:52 in the first half. BNL answered that as Adriano Sullivan’s crossing pass deflected off the goalie, with Decker booting it home at the 15:00 mark.
Jeffersonville reclaimed the lead on a long blast by Xavier Cortes at 35:55 in the second half, but Decker intercepted a soft pass back to the Jeff goalie for an equalizer at 34:50.
“Very happy with how the boys responded,” Otis said. “We got down a goal twice and fought back both times.
“In the first half we did not play great. We were disjointed and couldn’t possess. We weren’t stepping to the ball. In the second half we didn’t play to our ceiling, but we played much better. We had a few kids get hurt, and between that and the heat, we really pushed the kids. Their brand new turf made it even hotter. I’m sure several are going to be tired.”
Jeffersonville posted a 19-6 advantage in shots.
“The back line stepped up in the second half and Dan (Loudin-Magnuson) had some great saves,” Otis said. “The last ten minutes we were under fire but were able to keep them at bay.”
BNL will host Austin and celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday
