WASHINGTON CO. – A tragic head-on collision on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a southern Indiana woman and left two others seriously injured.
The accident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. on State Road 56, just east of Heritage Chapel Road, prompting a swift response from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and emergency personnel.
The crash involved a red 2008 Toyota passenger car, driven by 27-year-old Hanah Marie Davis of Scottsburg, and a gray 2022 Jeep Gladiator traveling westbound. Preliminary investigations indicate that Davis’s vehicle crossed the centerline, resulting in a head-on collision. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two occupants of the Jeep, also from Scott County, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department has requested the Indiana State Police Sellersburg Crash Reconstruction Team to conduct a detailed investigation. Troopers Tate Rohlfing and Ben Davis arrived to assist with the inquiry.
The roadway was closed for over three hours while officials gathered evidence and cleared the wreckage. In addition to the sheriff’s department, personnel from the Salem Fire Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office were present to assist.
