MEDORA—Medora Goes Pink, being held this year on Saturday, October 12th, is an annual event dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness and supporting those affected by the disease. The day features a vibrant community parade, where participants wear pink to show solidarity. Additionally, local vendors, food booths, entertainment, and a silent auction contribute to fundraising efforts. The event brings together residents and visitors for a meaningful cause, with proceeds going towards breast cancer research and support services for patients and survivors.
Medora Goes Pink was founded 15 years ago by Debra Wayman after she lost her mother to the disease. To date, the event has given over $278,000 to those affected by all types of cancer living anywhere in the country. “It is truly a divine event,” Wayman said.
Every year, the festival holds a contest similar to a Queen and King pageant, but instead, the winners are elected by donations. One boy and one girl are named Ambassadors of Hope. The winners serve as ambassadors year-long until the next pair is appointed.
Some other highlights to look forward to this year are medical screenings, bounce houses, face painting, wagon rides, barrel rides, cruise-in car show, 5k, and more!
