BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after police say he was driving while intoxicated with possession of a firearm.
Jacob Lee Ray, 25, was stopped by law enforcement after officers received reports of a red Chevrolet Silverado being driven erratically. Captain Dakoda Emmons of the Bedford Police Department observed the vehicle driving north on Q Street and identified Ray as the driver.
During the traffic stop, officers discovered a loaded Glock handgun on the floorboard of the vehicle alongside Ray and a passenger, identified as Dylan Allman. Ray’s identification revealed that he was driving with a suspended license and had a fictitious vehicle registration.
Upon exiting the vehicle, Ray dropped an electronic smoking device that later tested positive for marijuana. Signs of intoxication were apparent, as Ray exhibited glassy eyes and rapid speech. Subsequent field sobriety tests indicated a high level of impairment.
A canine alerted to possible drugs in the vehicle, leading to the discovery of several packaged electronic smoking devices and containers of wax-like substances, all believed to contain THC. Ray admitted ownership of the handgun and was cooperative throughout the process.
A blood draw search warrant was granted, and samples were taken at IU Health Hospital, confirming the presence of multiple narcotics, including cannabis and other central nervous system stimulants.
Ray was transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where he faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and possession of marijuana.
A family member took possession of Ray’s vehicle.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
