An Indiana State Police detective later spotted the vehicle traveling east on US 50. With the assistance of the Brownstown Police Department, law enforcement was able to conduct a traffic stop. Machida was taken into custody without incident, and a weapon believed to be used in the shooting was recovered from the vehicle. Machida has been taken into custody on a charge of murder.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more information regarding the events leading up to the shooting.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
