BEDFORD – Norris D. McPike, 48, of Bedford, was arrested on September 26 after Bedford Police officers discovered a significant amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.
According to the affidavit for probable cause, Officer J. Landon Jones was on patrol in the Walmart parking lot when he observed McPike driving a red Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle’s license plate was obstructed, prompting Officer Jones to check the vehicle and its owner and identify McPike as the driver.
After following McPike as he exited the Walmart parking lot and disregarded a stop sign, Officer Jones initiated a traffic stop at the Sunoco gas station. Upon approach, McPike exited his vehicle and began to argue with the officer, ignoring commands to return to his car. When Officer Jones performed a pat-down for safety, he discovered a knife on McPike’s person.
While Sergeant Gerkin prepared to issue a written warning for the obstructed plate, Officer Jones requested a K9 unit to sniff the vehicle. Canine Castiel alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. Following McPike’s admission that he had meth in the car, officers conducted a probable cause search.
Inside a silver lockbox found under the front passenger seat, officers discovered a black scale and two plastic bags containing a total of 24 grams of crystal meth.
McPike was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where he is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine between 10 and 28 grams.
The investigation continues, with McPike’s cell phone pending a search warrant. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address drug-related activities in the community.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict
