Greene County secures $3 million federal grant for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements

GREENE CO.— In a significant boost to local infrastructure, Greene County has been awarded a $3 million federal grant to enhance water and wastewater systems. This funding will specifically facilitate capacity expansion at the WestGate @ Crane Technology Park, a key initiative in the region’s economic development.

The grant is part of a broader federal effort to support areas affected by the transitions within the coal economy. As communities adapt to these changes, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) funding is designed to aid in developing sustainable infrastructure.

In addition to the federal grant, Greene County matches the funding with an equal contribution of $3 million in local funds. This collaborative investment is projected to have a significant economic impact, creating approximately 688 jobs and generating an estimated $460 million in private investment.

This grant is pivotal in enhancing the community’s infrastructure and preparing for a prosperous future. The expansion at WestGate will create jobs and attract new businesses to the area, bolstering our local economy.

The project reflects the EDA’s ongoing efforts to assist coal-impacted regions in transitioning towards more diverse and sustainable economic opportunities. With this funding, Greene County is poised to improve essential services and promote long-term economic growth and resilience.

As the project progresses, community leaders and residents are optimistic about the positive changes it will bring to Greene County, reinforcing its position as a growing hub for technology and innovation.
