BEDFORD – On Thursday, October 3, 2024, local law enforcement arrested Eric Scott Hackney, 44, of Bedford, on multiple drug-related charges following an extensive investigation by the Indiana State Police.
Hackney faces several charges, including:
- Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony
- Possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle, a Level 6 felony
- Maintaining a common nuisance – Controlled Substances, a Level 6 felony
- Possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Detective Mitch Wier of the Indiana State Police, the arrest culminated in an ongoing investigation throughout 2024. Police had received multiple tips about Hackney’s alleged possession of methamphetamine and hypodermic syringes at his residence on Washington Avenue.
The investigation included surveillance of Hackney’s property, which reportedly showed numerous “short stops” indicative of drug activity. A trash pull conducted earlier on the day of the arrest yielded evidence of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine residue.
Hackney was apprehended during a traffic stop at a local gas station. A subsequent search of his residence, authorized by a warrant, uncovered various drug-related items, including hypodermic needles, meth residue, plastic baggies, a digital scale, and a glass pipe with meth residue.
The arrest involved coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
Hackney was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident. The case remains under investigation, and further details may be released as they become available.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
