Obituary: Carson Hackney Jr.

February 17, 1938 – October 7, 2024

Carson Hackney Jr., 86, of Bedford, passed away at his residence on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 9:01 a.m.

He was born in Jonesville, Virginia, on February 17, 1938, to Carson Hackney and Belle (Hopkins) Hackney. Carson married Lela Eggers on June 6, 1959, and she survives. Carson worked as a finish room foreman at Webcor and at Travelers in Orleans, M&E Honda in Bedford, and W.F. Myers in Bedford. He was also a farmer and business entrepreneur in many different things. Carson was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, mowing, and sightseeing.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Hackney of Bedford, two daughters, Dianna Fisher of Orleans, and Jill Rose and her companion Joe Vaught of Bedford, one son, Jeff (Lisa) Hackney of Paoli, one brother Harold (Judy) Hackney of Bedford, seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Carson was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, one grandson, Jason Rose, and his son-in-law, Gary Fisher.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Cresthaven Memory Gardens, with Rev. David Ferry and Brother Tom Bostic officiating.
