BEDFORD—The Saint Vincent school zone now has proper signage on I Street and 17th Street and is a 20 mph zone during drop-off and pick-up times. City ordinance states that roads not marked by signs have a 30 mph speed limit. The new signage is a big step in keeping Bedford’s children safe.
“When a community fails to care for its children, it fails to care for its future. We are dedicated to the safety of the children of this city,” said City Councilman Brad Bough. “I made a pledge to the parents and grandparents that the safety of their children and grandchildren would be my top priority, and it will continue to be my top priority.”
The councilman’s next step is to install flashing lights in the school zones along 16th Street. Bedford Middle School and Parkview Elementary are on the city’s main thoroughfare, and flashers similar to those used on 5th Street at Stalker School would alert motorists to the presence of children.
