NEW ALBANY – Floyd Central advanced to the Class 4A sectional final with a three-set sweep of Bedford North Lawrence in the semifinal on Saturday.
The Highlanders, the current Hoosier Hills Conference champions and defending sectional champions, recorded a 25-13, 25-23, 25-13 victory over the Stars. Floyd (28-5) will face the New Albany-Providence winner in the sectional final.
“In the first and third sets, it was really tough to catch up,” BNL coach Aaron Wagoner said. “We were within three or four points of winning the second set, and our outside hitters had a clash. One ended up with a goose egg on her leg and the other one ended up with a goose egg on her eye. That was kind of a morale killer.
“I feel like this is the best volleyball that we’ve played all year. I’m very proud of the girls.”
Sammie Gratzer had 11 kills, Jenna Allen totaled 5 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces, and Isabella Root added 3 kills. Trinidy Bailey added 6 digs, Sara Williams had 4 digs, and Jayden Allen finished with 3 digs.
Floyd Central also conquered BNL in three sets during the regular-season clash on Sept. 5, a win that was a springboard for Floyd’s 21-match winning streak.
The Stars finished the campaign with a 12-12 mark.
