VINCENNES — A Knox County deputy’s quick thinking while off duty resulted in the arrest of a man with outstanding warrants during a routine shopping trip at Dunham’s Sporting Goods in Vincennes.
The incident began when the deputy recognized 30-year-old Dawson Kelm, who was wanted on two active warrants. The deputy alerted on-duty officers while Kelm entered a changing room. Once additional deputies arrived, they approached Kelm to inform and detain him on the warrants.

While searching him, police discovered burglar tools and broken security tags. Additionally, Kelm had clothing with store tags still attached, hidden beneath his clothes.
In total, Kelm was arrested on the two outstanding warrants and charged with several new offenses, including resisting law enforcement, criminal conversion, and possession of methamphetamine.
