Monday morning shooting in New Albany leaves one dead

NEW ALBANY – A Jeffersonville man is dead after a shooting Monday on the west side of New Albany.

Just after 10:00 a.m., the New Albany Police Department received reports of shots being fired at 325 West 8th Street.  Officers with New Albany PD and the Floyd County Police Department responded to the scene to find a male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The male, 30-year-old Johntae Trumbo of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, where he was pronounced deceased.  The alleged shooter, a 17-year-old male, remained at the scene and was detained upon arrival of officers.

Due to New Albany Police investigators being occupied with other investigations, the Indiana State Police was asked to respond to the scene and lead the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators headed the case with the assistance of New Albany and Floyd County.

Through the course of the investigation thus far, the 17-year-old male has been charged with possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon, obstruction of justice, and false informing.  He has been lodged in the Juvenile Detention Center in Jeffersonville.

Investigators are continuing to determine what led to shots being fired upon Trumbo.  As this is an active investigation, specific details will be forwarded to the Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determination if additional charges should be filed.

Updated information to this release will be made available should that be necessary.
