Dubois County teen arrested after vehicle accident and stolen gun is discovered

DUBOIS CO. — Authorities in Dubois County responded to a vehicle accident on US Highway 231 near B&A Supply on Wednesday, October 16, which led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Huntingburg resident.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., deputies were alerted to the scene, where a witness reported that the driver, later identified as Christopher J. Clark II, had fled into nearby woods after stating he needed to “toss the gun.” Quick action by deputies and officers from the Huntingburg and Jasper Police Departments resulted in Clark’s swift apprehension in the woods.

Upon returning to the accident site, law enforcement discovered a heavily damaged Dodge vehicle. A witness at the scene also found a revolver, which was confirmed to be stolen, having been reported missing in February 2024. During questioning, Clark admitted to losing control of the vehicle due to car trouble but claimed he had purchased the firearm through Facebook Marketplace.

Clark was arrested and charged with several offenses, including:

  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Level 5 Felony)
  • Attempted Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident (Class B Misdemeanor)

He made his initial court appearance on October 17 and was released after posting a $500 cash bond.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stolen firearm and the accident.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
