Indiana State Police investigate fatal crash on US 231 in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY CO. – On Sunday, October 27, just before 6:00 p.m., the Indiana State Police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash on US 231 near State Road 234.

Trooper Walsh’s preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Freightliner was traveling northbound on US 231 near State Road 234. At that time, a 2016 Honda CRV traveling eastbound on State Road 234 pulled out into the path of the Freightliner, resulting in a collision. Both vehicles came to rest on the west side of US 231, north of State Road 234.

The passenger of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner. Their name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Honda was transported by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis-area hospital, and their condition is currently unknown. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.

Trooper Walsh was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, the New Market Fire Department, the Crawfordsville Fire Department, and Crawfordsville EMS.

The investigation into this crash remains ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
