BEDFORD – A Bedford man is facing charges of battery with a deadly weapon and intimidation after Bedford Police officers responded on October 26 at 12:20 p.m. to an apartment in the 1000 block of J Street about a physical fight with a hammer.
The caller reported that his roommate, 45-year-old Bradley Willis, had struck him with a hammer in the hand and then fled.
According to Officer Nicholas Lemke, the male victim had two minor lacerations on his right knuckles that were slightly bleeding. He denied medical attention.
The victim told police he was awoken by Willis being loud and confronting him. That is when Willis “got into his face” and put his fists up to fight. Willis then grabbed the hammer and swung it at the other male, who raised his hand to ward off the blow. The victim told Willis he was calling the police, and Willis left the apartment.
The victim didn’t want to file charges but wanted officers to speak to Willis about his behavior.
Police contacted Willis by cell phone and asked him to return to the apartment. The men with the police discussed the argument and ultimately agreed to “squash it.”
But at 1:10 p.m., police responded to the apartment after Willis threatened to kill his roommate and then left.
The roommate decided to file charges. Police located Willis standing at the entrance of Green Hill Cemetery, and he was arrested on charges of battery with a deadly weapon and intimidation.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
