Mitchell Police arrest local teen for disorderly conduct, underage drinking and providing alcohol to another teen

MITCHELL— A disturbance at a residence on Dale Street led to the arrest of 20-year-old Stevie King on October 26, 2024. Officers from the Mitchell Police Department responded to multiple reports of loud music, fighting, and suspected underage drinking.

Upon arrival at approximately 9 p.m., Officer Cody Grogan and Officer Tanner Gray encountered King and another individual, and another individual in a heated argument. During the investigation, the other female informed officers that her underage brother was possibly consuming alcohol inside the residence.

Despite being warned to cease using profanity, King verbally escalated the situation. After repeatedly instructing him to keep his hands visible, Officer Grogan handcuffed King for safety reasons. King was then placed in the back of a patrol vehicle to separate him from the others involved and to diffuse the confrontation.

While officers attempted to find the woman’s brother, they used a phone app to track him, indicating he was hiding nearby. Officers located another teen in the woods, who refused to provide information about his companions and declined a Preliminary Breathalyzer Test.

Upon further investigation, officers learned that his mother had picked up the teen.

King was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including disorderly conduct, minor consuming alcohol, providing alcohol to a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
