WASHINGTON — With just days until Election Day on November 5, the United States Postal Service (USPS) urges voters to mail their ballots early to ensure they arrive on time. The Postal Service expects to deliver Election Mail with service performance comparable to, or better than, the 2020 election.
USPS emphasizes that voters should mail their ballots as soon as possible, ideally by Tuesday, October 29, to ensure they arrive by Election Day.
“As we prepare for an increase in mail-in ballots, USPS employees are committed to delivering each ballot quickly and securely,” a USPS spokesperson said. “To ensure your vote counts, please mail early—every day counts during this critical time.”
For the upcoming election, the Postal Service has implemented “extraordinary measures” designed to expedite ballot delivery. These measures began on October 21 and will remain in place through Election Day and each state’s final ballot acceptance deadlines.
The Postal Service has demonstrated strong service performance in past elections, with statistics showing that 99.89% of ballots mailed from voters to election officials were delivered within a week during the 2020 election. In the first three weeks of October, 99.9% of ballots have been delivered within the same timeframe.
Extraordinary Measures to Ensure Timely Delivery
The extraordinary measures include:
- Increased deliveries and collections
- Special pickups
- Enhanced sorting processes at processing facilities
- Local handling and transportation of ballots
These efforts are consistent with USPS’s past election operations and aim to ensure that all mail-in ballots are processed efficiently, particularly as Election Day approaches.
Voters are encouraged to take advantage of this advice and ensure their ballots are mailed promptly to have their voices heard in the upcoming election.
