INDIANA – As hunting season approaches, Indiana hunters have a unique opportunity to make a difference in their communities by donating harvested deer to the Indiana Hunt for Hunger program. This initiative supports local families in need and helps reduce food insecurity across the state.
Make an Impact with Your Harvest
Did you know donating just one deer can provide approximately 200 meals for local families? By participating in the Hunt for Hunger program, you can ensure that your harvest goes further than just your dinner table.
How to Participate:
Getting involved is simple and rewarding:
- Hunt Your Deer: Get ready for the hunting season and track down your deer.
- Harvest Your Deer: Follow proper hunting practices to ensure a successful harvest.
- Drop Off Your Deer: Take your field-dressed deer to a local participating processor. The Hunt for Hunger program covers processing fees, making it easy and cost-effective for hunters to contribute.
- Venison Distribution: The processor will turn your donation into a healthy venison burger, which will then be distributed to food banks and local organizations helping needy families.
Visit the DNR webpage to find a list of local participating processors and discover how you can contribute to this vital cause.
Community Partnerships
The DNR is proud to partner with organizations such as Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry, the Dubois County Sportsmen Club, and Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry. Together, we can significantly impact the fight against hunger in Indiana.
