INDIANAPOLIS – The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee announced six finalists to fill two upcoming judicial openings.
For the vacancy created by one upcoming retirement:
- Judge Kimberly J. Bacon
- Magistrate Tara Y. Melton
- Magistrate Terrance Tharpe
For the vacancy created by a second upcoming retirement:
- Magistrate Pauline A. Beeson
- Magistrate Katharine Melnick Sahlein
- Magistrate James K. Snyder
On October 28-29, the committee interviewed 27 candidates. After deliberating in an executive session, the committee publicly voted to send the two panels of three finalists to the governor.
According to Indiana law, the committee must forward “the three most highly qualified candidates” to the governor for appointment when a vacancy arises. Upon receiving the names, Governor Eric Holcomb has 60 days to make appointments to the Marion County courts.
Details on the committee, including membership, are online. The committee thanks the retiring judges, John Hanley and Mark Stoner, for their years of service.
