BROWNSTOWN— A routine patrol by Jackson County Officer Alan Jones turned into a significant drug bust on Friday, October 25, when he encountered a black Chevrolet pickup truck that failed to stop at a red light and nearly collided with his vehicle.
According to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer, Officer Jones quickly turned his vehicle around and initiated a traffic stop in the 900 block of West Commerce Street. The driver was identified as Nathan Fields, 36, of Bedford.
Brownstown K9 Officer Ryan Cherry assisted Officer Jones and brought his canine partner, Honey, to the scene. Honey conducted a free air sweep around the pickup truck, resulting in a positive alert for narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a significant quantity of illegal substances: two grams of methamphetamine, 38 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 472 grams of marijuana, and various types of pills.
Fields was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Violation of a Legend Drug
- Four charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Dealing Marijuana
- Possession of Marijuana
- Criminal Recklessness with a Vehicle
Sheriff Meyer commended Officer Jones and K9 Officer Cherry for their quick action, which prevented a potential traffic accident and led to the removal of illegal drugs from the community. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about drug-related activities to contact local law enforcement.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
