INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced today that Daniel Shackle will be stepping down as the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF). Gov. Holcomb named DLGF Deputy Commissioner/Chief of Staff Scott Maitland Acting Commissioner. Maitland has been with DLGF since 2018.
Maitland, who will continue as Chief of Staff, will assume the role of Acting Commissioner on December 9.
Shackle was appointed Commissioner of DLGF in June of 2023. He served as the DLGF’s General Counsel and Chief of Staff from 2017-2020 and Chief Legal Officer of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles from October 2020 until he was appointed Commissioner of DLGF.
Under his leadership, the DLGF has accomplished the following:
- Provided oversight of all property assessments for the State of Indiana
- Certified budget orders timely for nearly 2500 local government units
- Visited nearly 80 counties to support local government officials
- Introduced new technology applications to improve efficiency and compliance for Indiana local governments, taxpayers, and the State.
Shackle’s last day as Commissioner will be Friday, December 6.
Shackle, a native of Indianapolis, studied political science at Indiana University and received his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law. He served as an officer in the United States Army from 2001 to 2005 and received the Bronze Star Medal for actions taken during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Shackle will join the Frost Brown Todd law firm, where he will continue supporting local government units in government services and public finance practice groups.
Maitland earned a Master of Business Administration from Butler University and a Bachelor of Arts in applied computer science from Purdue University.
