ORLEANS—Orleans town crews have begun their annual leaf collection program, providing residents with important leaf disposal and pickup guidelines.
Crews are now collecting bagged leaves, with a crucial reminder for residents: trash and bagged leaves must be kept separate during pickup. The town’s Leaf Machine will soon be making its rounds, systematically moving from pile to pile until all leaves have been collected.
Residents are strongly urged to rake leaves onto the tree plat (the area between the sidewalk and curb), NOT into the street.
Burning leaves is forbidden on all town streets and roadways.
Residents are asked to remove large sticks and similar debris from leaf piles, which can clog vacuum pipes and significantly slow down collection efforts.
Town officials encourage residents to take this opportunity to clear nearby storm drain inlets. Maintaining these drains can help prevent potential drainage and flooding issues during heavy rainfall.
Residents with questions about leaf collection can contact the Orleans Town Offices at 812-865-2539 for more information.
The leaf collection program is an essential service that helps keep the town clean and prepared for the approaching winter months.
